Hypervisual to lead the web

Attractiveness | Beauty | Aesthetics | Visual Pleasure
This is what I’d like to write about in this post. There’s no news in saying beautiful things work better than ugly one. This topic is fully covered by Donald A. Norman in his “Emotional Design”, a book I strongly recommend to all of you interested in design.
Well, it’s just this book which confirmed and gave credit to my recent behaviour. I became intolerant to any ugly looking/badly working website. I can’t stand on a web page taking more than 15 seconds to load that I immediately give up and go somewherelse. I can’t stand plain html websites, frame websites, maze looking websites. To keep it simple I cannot stand anymore, badly designed websites. Too much types and words are something I can handle only when visiting newspapers web pages, I hate unnecessary sound effects and gaudy colors. I have become a web-hypervisual user. It is quite snobbish actually…, I’ve always been a bit like that though, so: no surprise. I happen to judge a website in no time, by only watching 12% of the entire web-build.
This is something wrong (?)
Sometimes I feel like judging a book by its cover, other times I say to my self I’m right, “people should design websites better!”. I’m not sure if my behaviour is shared by other people or if I’m among a restricted group. What I sniff is this is a trend. I know it can be only me, and some crazy-obsessed web-designer, but as the time goes by users’ tastes become sophisticated and this increased sensitivity will be reflected in many web 2.0 businesses. I guess web 3.0 will be characterized by the endless research of beauty. Again a visually driven world, again stunning, again partial.
