Combat d’amour en songe

This is the title of a film I have seen this morning. Yep, this week-end will be full of cinema, art and whatever other nice things you can associate with it ( as music, literature, discussion, so on and so forth). Being back on my tiny little island in Southern Italy, though sometimes it appears quite limitating, other times offers unvaluable chances to spend good time. One of these chances is represented by a small festival, called “Il Vento del Cinema”, namely “The Wind of Cinema”, which is held on my tiny little island.

Projections of rare cinema pieces and related jam sessions fill the day. The film I have seen was a dreamy piece of cinema, where the viewer slowly understands what is a truth hard to achieve. Happenings, characters, actors all are confused, mixed, so you find yourself wandering around the path of a dream. A dream that, as you may imagine, doesn’t follow the pre-packaged linearity books and other movies do follow.

It goes, wherever the mind and heart tell it to go. Complete nonsense, complete sense. At the same time.

The immutable things…

There are things that cannot be changed. Wherever you are, whatever you are doing, these things never leave you. They are part of you as you are part of them.

This awareness is kind of comforting. I am talking, of course, about soccer. And here the laughings should start…:)

It’s about 16 days I am here in the United States and I am starting to catch the pace. Now, I understand 88% of what people say and I am pretty satisfied on my commute strategy. I don’t get lost anymore and I don’t look as an alien anymore, while walking near the skyscrapers. All these things have changed during these days, still there is something which doesn’t: head in the soccer! I know, I know, someone could complain of this being a mere commonplace…, but I tell you: commonplaces start spreading around on a basis and this one makes no exception.

It was friday afternoon and after a bad morning spent at the social security administration (now everything is solved) I arrived at work. The first thing I did turning the computer, keeping a low profile… 14:45 ET, 20:45, GMT+1… Italy-Belgium, a friendly match starts. This was the only friendly match Italy played before the European Championship, so I was full of curiosity and excitement. But, (there is always a “but”) I had some work to do… and so… I didn’t care and did it all together. Checking work and in the meantime listening to the internet radio, the match was broadcasted by the national network! 14:54 ET – Italy scored its first Goal, Debra noticed my elation, but preferred not to remark it. 14:55 Jamie came by my place and told me I had take part in a meeting… I left my place happy, I was calm: we were 1-0 over. The meeting ended up 40 minutes later. I sat at the desk and listened to the live comment to the second goal. I couldn’t believe how amazingly lucky I was! The happiness was visible on my face and the work was even funnier to get done!

I get crazy when the national team is playing… and I wonder… what will be my reactions if Italy scores…against someone now I don’t even want to report? Gosh, I cannot immagine…

My passion is also about being updated, and an entire array of vituperate words came out of my mouth (of course in Italian), when I found out about Fabio Cannavaro’s accident and his, for the time being, finished Championship. Che C***o di Sfiga!!! That cannot even be translated, but it’s similar to: What the bloody “systematic misfortune”!!!

By the way, I wish Captain Cannavaro the Best, and hope to see him soon in Procida with its boat and kids.

ALWAYS WITH YOU, CAPTAIN!

Italy meets USA…, and I guess it’s neither the first time…nor the last

Great updates: I arrived to NYC!

Yes, it seems unbelievable but I finally visited America. I must admit the cultural shock has happend… oh yes! Everything is so big and there is so much choice… I mean, in Italy when I used to go to a shop to get a sandwich or a salad for lunch, the choice for the things to drink would have been only between natural or sparkling water. Today I was completely stuck in front of the fridge of a restaurant, trying to figure out which vitaminic water would have better suited my needs. Lucky I wasy boss got me out from my ipnotic status, otherwise at this hour I could still be there trying to figure out what to buy. Oh, and then: the streets! It is strange to see so many yellow school buses and no, and I repeat i, no scooters at all. Only cars are on the streets, and for those of you who have ever been in Europe and especially in Itally, it is reknown scooters are far more than cars! In addition to this… I thought to be pretty good in english, and many people told me my spoken english is perfect, still I cannot understand… 40% of what people say! Really! And it’s terrible, because I kind of feel what they are referring to, but I am not able to dtinguish any specific verb or words! Bloody hell, it’s a nightmare!

Aside to this, there is my job; only today I think I had a first example of project management ando of what I am supposed to learn and to do during my internship period…not bad at all. They all are very kind with me and I hope that slowly I’ll let them know which kind of person they hired: a genius!

Ehi, I was just kidding. Ok, here it is late for me, it is actually 22:15pm and I am rather tired so…

my dearest readers, see you next time!
