America doesn’t have it!

or at least is not that diffused as in Europe…

I have been here since almost two months and here is the thing, I must say, with laughter, I miss the most:

The bidet!

I know, I know, this post is hilarious, but every european reading this article is likely to have at least a hint of how I could be feeling, and really I don’t understand why here it’s not used! I find it so hygienical and useful… and most of all is something I have always been using in all of my life. So, interested by this issue, tonight I googled it! And the wikipedia page popped out by giving me precious information: definition, history, location, culture and mostly the reason why it didn’t appeal in this country! I will therefore link the page in this article, in order not to deprive you of the pleasure to discover this bathroom item by yourself. I would only add that modern bidets are built in this way… and are continuously cleaned at every usage! (tsk!)

If you don’t have it, well give it a chance!

EURO 2008

*Cough cough*, I think I can’t describe which embarassment my national team has given me during these last days… being the World Champions is not easy, and yet I had no real good feelings since the beginning. I don’t know what is going to happen on tuesday, but I hope the match to be a wonderful one.

In addition to this… tonight I have read an article on a famous italian newspaper’s website: www.gazzetta.it , here there were listed all the strangest and funniest things said in and about Euro 2008. Many of them made me laugh, other ones made me deeply think about the Italian team.

One of them is apparently a txt message sent by one player to a world champion who is now at home (and they are few)…, this message said: “We are in physical good conditions, but we enter in the field with fear”…

WHY?

New York City’s fauna and me (1)

In a week it will be one month I have been here in U.S.A…. and as I have already said, I am getting used to it. Yet, there are some things I cannot ignore and walk by, as many other new yorkers do: Squirrels.

In Italy we have squirrels for sure, but do not live near the populated areas, and neither they are so big an near to the man. The only squirrel I have ever seen in Italy had a black fur and was very small.

Here in New York, and I would say U.S.A., squirrels are very common. They go in the houses, ruin garbage bags, live in the parks, and me, I still have to get used to it!

Today, while I was walking to the subway station in Cadman Plaza, I suddenly stopped walking. I had just seen, with the corner of the eye, a big light brown tail on a tree: it was a squirrel! I grabbed the camera I always bring with me, and picked a picture. Then, after some second I realised the squirrel was on the wrong side of the street, on the opposite side of the Cadman Plaza Park is. So… I filmed a video…

This is New York City’s fauna and me (1), soon there will be the second chapter…, and I promise is a very interesting one.
