World of Leaders

Leadership. Leadership. Leadership. Leadership. Leadership. Leadership. Everyone speaks about, writes, advertises leadership. Leadership as a must have feature for anyone willing to start a career. Leadership as what makes you stand out of the crowd. But…, if everyone who are in the companies are a leaders… who is going to actually lead the deal? If everyone’s a leader, who is going to follow? There must be someone following, otherwise there’s no point in being a leader, and if there really are some followers, they must have become so. They looked like leaders when they were hired… and they became followers in the end. So… leader you were born, or you become? I really have no idea, though I quite feel this stress on leadership qualities isn’t really the right way of dealing with the issue. Leadership seems quite volatile in comparison to other qualities, your attitude towards work changes over time, it depends on environmental issues and is likely to set you in constrast with (the) other leaders. There is something instead, I never read about on job requirements: charisma. Charisma is a characteristic held by few people. Many can be leaders, but only a few can excercise the leadership through powerful charisma. So… companies, will you start asking for charisma?
Dilemma…
My dilemma is:
+ Most agencies require producers with 3-5 yrs of experience;
+ None of them cares about accepting producers with less experience.
Apparently this is a “all lose” game.
J1 – Visa – The Challenge
It has been quite a long time I haven’t written something on this blog…, well… many things happened during these days and one is I will probably do an internship in NYC!
I cannot tell you how much I am excited! I have always dreamt about me going to USA, but never actually thought this could happen! The company is a very successful design studio and I will do an internship in project management…
Someone could argue: well… and what’s the point?
The point is that… getting into USA with a J1 visa is a true adventure; tons of documentations and certificates to be delivered, interviews, requests and forms to fill! I know that after 9/11 things are changed and security is the biggest concern for US, but I could never imagine it to be so difficult. Please, wish me good luck… and I will update for important news very soon.
